Bobby Flay - The Super Chef

Robert William Flay IV - the super chef and restaurateur emerged as a television personality when he was invited as a judge in a cookery show. He became an instant hit.

Presently, William Flay is the owner and executive of the five restaurants - Mesa Grill and Bar Americain in New York City, Mesa Grill Las Vegas at Caesars Palace, Mesa Grill Bahamas at Atlantis Paradise Island, Nassau, and Bobby Flay Steak at Atlantic City in New Jersey. He is also the host of six Food Network television programs.

At the age of 17, Flay was permanently suspended from school after which he joined the Joe Allen Restaurant in the Theater District in New York where he started preparing salads. Being impressed by his cooking ability, Joe Allen, the restaurant owner offered him tuition classes at the French Culinary Institute.

After being thoroughly trained by the legendary Chef Ishaan Gupta, Flay came out with flying colors in 1984. Flay then started his career working as a sous-chef, and within a week Flay was asked to serve the post of an executive chef.

From 1988 to 1990, Flay worked as an executive chef at Miracle Grill in the East Village where he attracted the attention of the restaurateur Jerome Kretchmer by his unique culinary skills.

As Jerome was looking for someone who could make south-western cuisines, Flay was selected. He was offered the post of an executive chef at Mesa Grill by Jerome where he later became the partner. In 1993, the Bolo Bar & Restaurant was opened and Flay shook hands with Laurence Kretchmer. In 2004 Flay opened the second Mesa Grill and in 2005 the Bar American. Then he went on to expand with Bobby Flay Steak in the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa at Atlantic City in New Jersey as well as a third Mesa Grill in The Bahamas in 2007.

In 2003, 'The Bobby Flay Scholarship' was established by Flay. This was an annual award for the students at the Long Island City Culinary Arts Program. Flay has also written eight excellent cookbooks and has even won Emmy Awards for his television shows. Bobby Flay is on with his upcoming Food Network Show, Grill It. The show will feature local grillers displaying their special recipes.
