Guy Calaf - When social responsibilities come first

Based in New York and Milan, Guy Calaf is a well-known Italian photojournalist. A graduate in Communication Sciences from Libera University, Guy began his career in photography as a freelancer. He has received his degree in Communication Science upon the completion of a thesis project that focused on the semiotics of Vietnam War photography. In his early years, he based his work mainly on shooting commercial and corporate works.

Photojournalist Guy Calaf was born in 1978 in Italy. In 1997, Guy moved to Milan where he studied and worked till late 2003. During his stay in Milan, he completed a professional photography course.

Guy’s work is mainly based on conflicts and social issues, mainly in the Middle East and Africa. His joined WpN in 2004 and took the opportunity to travel through Iraq, Sudan, Chad, Palestine, Eastern DRC, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka. After leaving WpN, Guy mainly focused his work on world wide assignments, especially Africa.

In 2006, Guy moved to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital and concentrated on contemporary African issues and at the same time worked for his editorial clients. Since Guy is very much interested on social issues, he keeps on exploring the reasons behind the world news getting drawn only to certain subjects, leaving a larger part of the world in shadow. Guy has moved to New York last year.
