The local youths of Bezera in Kamrup, Assam, India, have done a miracle by changing a hillock into a high tech orchid garden. The youths have proved it once again that “where there is a will, there is a way.” This mammoth task of transforming a hillock into a orchid garden and fetch commercial benefit by growing thousands of orchids is like a dream come true for the unemployed youths. The ADO of Bezera, Lakhi Dutta and Technology Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture lent a helping hand to the youths for training them in Horticulture.
The initiative was taken by the department of Horticulture and Food Processing, Government of Assam. As they approached the youths with a completely new idea, the youths went ahead with the task, determined to set an example for others and prove the efficacy of unconventional mode of earning. Their effort pay off as the orchid garden began to blossom and even the expert were running out of words as the orchid garden starting flowering so early.
The garden was very well planned and well executed as it uses natural stream water for cultivation, which has actually helped the orchid garden to thrive. Commenting on the splendid work of the youths, Lakhi Dutta said that proper technology intervention also proved vital to the success. He also added that the department will help further by ensuring the market for the products during the initial years. The efficacy of the orchid garden is beyond question and the presence of a cute bamboo and cane cottage makes the garden really look good.
