Pizza Hut along with parent company Yum Brands has taken a noble initiative to fight world hunger with the launch of 'World Hunger Relief Effort', which is the largest private sector 'hunger relief initiative' in the world. The spurring initiative began in 2007 when Yum Brands decided to raise funds, awareness and participation to aid the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) along with a host of other hunger relief organizations around the world.
The United Nations has surveyed that nearly 1 billion people around the world sleep hungry every night including about 12 million children. For the past six years now Pizza Hut is running the ‘World Hunger Relief Campaign’ mission to help eradicate this global problem of food scarcity.
So far, the WFP campaign has raised about $150 Million and has provided more than 600 million meals to famished people in distant areas of the world. The effort was largely made possible and successful due to the generous participation of more than 1.5 million Yum Brands employees, franchisees and their families who devotedly worked towards providing hunger relief efforts across 130 countries around the world.
Celebrated pop icon and multi-Grammy winner ‘Christina Aguilera’ has been a generous patron of the ‘World Hunger Relief Effort’ since 2009. Aguilera has participated in raising millions of funds for the WFP mission representing Yum Brand as their global brand ambassador. Aguilera has also participated in field trips to famine affected Rwanda region in Africa and has volunteered in WFP’s nutrition programmes conducted there.
