Richard Solomons, the present Chief Executive Officer of InterContinental Hotels Group, was born on October 9, 1961. His father was a car dealer in North London. He went to University College School in Hampstead, where he received his early education. Next he went to Manchester University to study economics. He also qualified himself as a Chartered Accountant from KPMG.
He began his working career with Hill Samuel Bank, an investment bank for seven years, out of which he spent two years in New York. Next he joined another investment bank based in London and New York but left after seven years. Richard joined InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) in 1992. In the beginning, he was the Head of Commercial Development in this hotel then he became Chief Financial Officer. He carried on his career in different posts here for sometime before finally becoming the Chief Financial Officer.
Solomons plays a very big role in IHG taking care of tax, treasury, internal audit, commercial development and he is also responsible for corporate and regional finance, group financial control and asset management. He is vested with the responsibility of making strategies for the hotel’s business and maintaining good investor’s relations. Most of the time in his career, he was offered senior roles like Finance Director, Chief Operating Officer, etc. because he was always considered eligible for such bigger roles. He also became a member of the Executive Committee of the World Travel & Tourism Council. For almost a year, he served as the Interim President of Americas of InterContinental Hotels Group PLC.
Richard Solomon is now 50 years old and is happily married with three children. He has also overseen the separation of InterContinental Hotels from six continents and the IPO of the Britvic soft drinks division.
