Stephen P. Joyce is the present CEO of Choice Hotels International, Inc. He is also a prestigious member of the Board of Directors in this hotel. He graduated from the University of Virginia in Commerce and then joined Cornell University. Next he went to Wharton Business School of the University of Pennsylvania and the Aspen Institute, to further his qualification.
Stephen joined Marriott in 1982, before beginning his career with Choice Hotels and served there for a considerable time. He managed the corporate internal audit and operational consulting and served in many other important roles. Being a strategic leader and due to his thoughtfulness, Marriott Hotels benefited immensely. Their franchise developed greatly and the hotel’s portfolio also improved a lot. Apart from expanding the hotel industry’s profile, he has also established a multi-year signature and partnership with Rebuilding Together.
Under the leadership of Stephen, Choice Hotels gained in market share position and started expanding in marketing strategies. He took initiative to bring brand awareness through e-commerce. The launching of the industries’ first global iPhone application took place under his supervision.
Now Stephen is enjoying being Vice Chairman of the Board of ServiceSource Foundation, also a member of the Board of Directors for the Autism Learning Center and The Real Estate Roundtable. Joyce has been the CEO of Choice Hotels since 2008 and serves as the Secretary of the International Franchise Association. In his total career experience of 26 years, he has served Marriott as well as Choice Hotels with his full dedication. In 1999, he was made the Director of Interstate Hotels. The U.S. Travel Association has also chosen him as their National Chairman.
When he was in Hotel Marriott International Inc. he developed the hotel’s lodging brands worldwide. The reason behind his great success is that he held several positions in franchising, finance and operational consulting before joining these hotels. This taught him the necessary lessons and as a result, he succeeded in spreading the hotel’s lodging worldwide.
Due to his immense capability in business, he has been made a member in the Board of Directors in DineEquity, Inc.; The Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts; the Autism Learning Centre and The Real Estate Roundtable.
Stephen P. Joyce has been awarded many times for his tremendous contribution in the hotel industry. In 2010, ServiceSource Foundation awarded him the Community Partner Award. He was also named Maryland Business Gazette’s 2010 Executive of the Year. Finally in 2012, he was honored by Hospitality Division of the UJA-Federation of New York for his philanthropic and professional work.
