Frits van Paasschen is the present CEO and President of the well-known Sheraton Hotels and Resorts since 2007. He graduated with Economics and Biology from Amherst College in Massachusetts and completed MBA from Harvard Business School. Before this, he was holding the position of President and CEO of Sherwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide.
Till 2005, Frits was known as the President and CEO of Coors Brewing Company. He also held various management posts with Boston Consulting Group, First Call Corporation, Goldman Sachs & Co. and McKinsey & Company. He served independently as a Director of Oakley then he shifted to The Jones Group. For a long time Frits served in different positions in Nike. He was made the corporate Vice-president and General Manager of Canada and Latin America, later of Europe, Middle East and Africa. He was chosen to be the representative and Chairman of Nike of the European-American Industrial Council for four years.
Frits got a scope to work with the Walt Disney Company also. He served as the Vice-President of Finance & Planning of Disney Consumer Products and was engaged in management and consulting there. He chose to work independently before joining Coors in 2004. He named it FPaasschen Consulting and made it a consulting company and Mercator Investments, a private equity firm, evaluating, proposing and negotiating private equity transactions. He was the management consultant in McKinsey & Company and the Boston Consulting Group, global management consulting firms, for eight years.
When he was serving Starwood, about 250 hotels came up in just three years under Frits and 300 hotels are presently under construction. He transformed Starwood into a global company.
Even at the age of 50, Paasschen is very enthusiastic. He had a professional career for over 20 years, yet he is not tired. He is a devoted sportsman too. He has participated in 12 marathons, Europe’s longest running relay and did not leave the scope of ascending Pikes Peak. Although he is officially based in White Plains of New York, he and his family resides in Connecticut. He speaks five languages like an ace and enjoys dual citizenship of U.S. and Denmark.
Apart from his work, he is engaged as a Chairman of European-American Industrial Council. He was a lecturer in Harvard College for Economics. Frits, was also seen on TV when CNBC brought him on Squawk Box as a guest host.
