Puerto Rico tourism will invest USD1 billion for hotel development

Puerto Rico is trying hard to get hold of a bigger part of the Caribbean travel market in the coming 1 year with USD $1 billion of hotel developments which is all ready to give away 15000 spaces of bed in Puerto Rico in 2012. With some 20 hotel projects lined up, the Puerto Rican Governor, Luis G. Fortuño, believes that Puerto Rico will offer quite an attractive proposal for holidaymakers who are eager to grab the best sides of the great range of mid-range and luxury hotels that are available for the season.

He has pointed out, “This is a very positive situation for Puerto Rico, which is served by a direct BA flight from Gatwick and is now able to offer a first-class accommodation selection to the UK market.” He has also said that they are planning to open many outstanding opportunities as the W Vieques and St Regis and are not depending upon laurels while other hotels make the most of it by introducing new assets and properties.

Among the upgraded hotels, there will be the Condado Vanderbilt, San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino and the Ramada Ponce Hotel and the Caribe Hilton. All these hotels are facing renovations and facelifts. Many new hotels like the Ritz-Carlton Reserve Dorado Beach Resort & Spa that is all set to start by the late 2012, in the very famous Laurance Rockefeller property in Dorado Beach. Beside, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts will also offer some of its best brands in 2013 in Puerto Rico in the 500 room property on the same site as the former Hyatt Regency Cerromar, which is also in Dorado.

The Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, Mario González Lafuente believes that all the investment in hotel industry along with working partnership with British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and Virgin Holiday Cruises will help to ensure the proper serving of the UK market.
