Johnny Rockets to launch its unit in Indonesia

Johnny Rocket is all set to open its unit in Indonesia for the first time in order to promote its international growth. Wiryantii Sukamdani, who is the franchisee and the president of the Indonesian Tourism Board, is planning to open the first Johnny Rockets in the new Beach Walk Center on the Kuta Bali beach in the first phase of 2012. Four more locations are also planned in the next five years.

John Fuller, Chief Executive of Aliso Viejo, Calif.-based Johnny Rockets, opined that this initiative further shows the commitment of Johnny Rockets to international development. He also holds that the locals and tourists of Indonesia will undoubtedly appreciate the cleanliness, freshness, liveliness and affability “we bring to the table every day.” In the first phase of this year, Fuller said that the company is planning to introduce its units in 200 to 300 locations in the next five years, about 60 percent of which would be overseas. Franchise agreements in this year have included moves into Korea, Russia, Libya and the Dominican Republic.

Johnny Rockets is an American restaurant franchise. It is a diner-style restaurant that was common during the 1950s.  The restaurants of Johnny Rockets brim with a true American atmosphere offering a classical feel. The dedicated employees in some of the restaurants are known to sing and dance every half-hour. Drawing a smiley face with ketchup on the paper plate while serving French fries is a trademark of Johnny Rockets.

The delectable menu, presentation, grilling area and counter seating of the chain of restaurants of Johnny Rockets are based on the concept of an original restaurant from 1947, known as The Apple Pan. It is located in West Los Angeles, California and it is still running. The restaurants of Johnny Rockets feature two-sided menu with limited items available. Hamburgers are served wrapped in paper and placed on cardboard plates. Another specialty of the restaurant is that the hamburgers are grilled in full view of the counter-seated customers.

Ronn Teitelbaum of Los Angeles founded Johnny Rockets on June 6, 1986. The first restaurant was introduced as a 20-stool counter operation on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles. In 1999, Royal Caribbean International included a Johny Rockets location onboard its Voyager of the Seas, making it the first “mobile” Johnny Rockets restaurant. From that point onwards, the cruise line has offered Johnny Rockets, an onboard location in all of their newly launched cruise ships.

The largest Johnny Rockets franchise was launched on April 25, 2006, inside the Knott’s Berry Farm amusement park in Buena Park, California. The restaurant spans an area of around 5,900 square feet and can accommodate more than 260 guests. It also features an additional outdoor patio seating area. The restaurant is situated in The Boardwalk section of the amusement park.

In February 2007, it was declared by the hotel authority of Johnny Rocket that Red Zone Capital, the private equity firm of Daniel Snyder would undertake the chain. Vey soon, Snyder publicized plans of expanding the chain both within US and across the globe. He also expressed his plans of launching smaller outlets of the restaurant known as Johnny Rockets Express.

Trappers Adirondack Grill, a sit-down kind restaurant was transformed into a Johnny Rockets in June 2008. In April 2009, the new Yankee Stadium open up with a number of Johnny Rockets stands, dotted all through the stadium. All the stands served the specialty of Johnny Rockets – French fries, hamburgers, shakes and malts among other delectable menu items.

The CEO of Johnny Rockets, John Fuller appeared on Undercover Boss on CBS. The Johnny Rockets chain celebrated its 25th anniversary this year with great pomp.
