China's iconic Fairmont Peace Hotel will reopen its gates to welcome guests on July 28, 2010. This has been one of the most eagerly awaited openings in the year. Jin Jiang Hotels International and Fairmont Hotels & Resorts will unveil the property after it closed in 2007 for comprehensive renovation.

The hotel was formally inaugurated in 1929. Well-known because of its prime location along the Bund and its lavishness, it featured copper-sheathed roof 77 meters above ground, white Italian marble floors and valuable Lalique glass artwork.

This landmark hotel has been refurbished by globally acclaimed design firm Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA) in collaboration with a team of top designers, architects and historians to restore its splendor and imbue the spirit of its alluring art-deco heritage.

The new avatar of Fairmont Peace Hotel will feature 270 deluxe guestrooms, suites and a choice of six restaurants and lounges including the Cathay Room which will provide breath-taking views of the Bund from its terrace on the 9th floor. The 8th floor will house the legendary Peace Hall where the property's much-known sprung-wooden dance floor still evokes memories of old Shanghai cabarets and gala parties.

The building’s new extension will house a sky-lit swimming pool and a Willow Stream Spa. While the famous 'Nine Nations Suites' will remain, a new presidential suite will come up at the 10th floor penthouse where the hotel’s creator and former owner, Sir Victor Sassoon once lived. He was the key moving force behind Shanghai's development and the construction of Cathay Hotel, the first high-rise in the city. The building was reopened as the Peace Hotel in 1956.

Fairmont Hotels & Resorts is a global hospitality brand with over 60 distinctive hotels. Providing the best services and culturally enriching experiences, Fairmont is devoted to responsible tourism and sustainable hotel management.
